NEO,
COBI is something to protect our employers, not us. I'm too cynical to believe anything about it or thinking that if I rocked the boat I wouldn't be shafted. Out in Nigeria one has only 3 options: accept things, moan about them here and hope (forlornly) that anyone in senior management will see and take notice of them, or vote with the aforementioned feet.
One thing is for sure, the new CLA policy is one of the most universally detested measures I've seen here for some years
Oh well, less than 2 years to have to suffer it

Chc/acn
Here in Canada we hear a lot of rumours going on the latest of which is that ACN is now hiring directly and CHC is not supplying crews. Anybody here know what is actually going on in Pt. Harcourt?

Aser,
I guess this was you at Tangier in the 139? Also saw you in Casablanca, while ferrying the S76 (pictured) from Norwich to Takoradi, Ghana.
We came across the 2 CHC/Aero 225's in formation, while airborne around Alicante, then met the crews while night stopping in Agadir.
Was slightly envious of the spanking new 225's, until I realised they were 5N registered, and found out where they were headed!
Guys, hope you had a good night in Palma, and got to Lagos safe.

How amazing that Takoradi is only a couple of hours from Lagos, yet a crappy old 76A++ is sent from Europe business unit while the WEST AFRICAN STRATEGIC BUSINESS UNIT (which is what the Bristow operation in Nigeria is officially part of) didn't get the business. What an indictment of super-efficient, job-cutting, coffee-charging, CLA-cutting Mike Armlick can sack a bunch of nationals and bring misery to their many family members and charge a European Starbucks price for a lousy cup of Nescafe in the BRC, but he couldn't get a contract in a country in his own neighbourhood. Or maybe it should be an indictment of his suitcase carrier and commercial manager Lapdog Oh Ya Lekker . I'll bet not a single tear is shed when he gets the push, but he won't care, he'll have met his KPIs and leave with a big profit bonus that he stole off the backs of the small people whose jobs Foamy Coolings persuaded him to cut. He's a tight Jock accountant and probably doesn't give a damn about the people whose lives he's blighted or the fact that he's totally destroyed morale in Nigeria. What on earth has this got to do with business integrity? It's actually illegal in Nigeria to employ someone as a contractor for more than 2 years without offering them a contract of permanent employment and the Nigerian government has said it is going to crack down on these bad employers who are just exploiting their workers. But I'm sure it's all done with the best possible integrity . Never mind, he's really achieved Target Zero in record time - zero morale, zero real pay rise, zero CLA. Bristow Helicopters Nigeria - One Mission, Many Worlds, No Team Spirit any more. All I can say to whoever has gone to Takoradi is, fight to make sure you don't get taken under the wing of WASBU. If you do, you'll suddenly realise that it wasn't the feathers on the wing you were taken under, but the feathers on the backside and you're about to get cr*pped on from above by a mean-spirited $hite hawk
I'd rather work as a garbage cleaner than ever return to that place under its present senior management.

Bristow Burnout,
Very well said. My limited understanding of the labour laws is that it is illegal to continually recycle casual employees. I hope you are right about it contravening the laws to have a local contract worker employed for more than two years without the offer of a full time position.
I can't see the government rushing to their assistance but I'm sure Chilin' Bill would have to act after the two years if it was brought to his attention.
The irony is that they are aren't saving that much money. They are just making one Nigerian very rich at the expense of many.
Foamy, perhaps you can enlighten us as to the legality of 'two year' local contractors?

Just 6 months ago Bristow shares were worth twice those of arch-rival CHC, now they're worth less. Is that because Bristow is on the way down or CHC is on the way up after a cash injection as a result of being taken over?
Our blade-bending hero is now officially a hero with a commendation for bravery and skill. Let's hope his skill and experience are not called on to save the day again any time soon.
Bristow are talking about starting to fly for Agbami soon. Does this mean the contract has officially been awarded at last? If so, maybe the price of coffee will be reduced in the Bristow staff house

I need to know...
NEO, how much does the Joy Avenue, Isolo Starbucks charge for a latte macchiato, then?
I am still assessing my various career options, you see. So many toppest offers have come flooding in recently that I have been making a list here to aid me in my decisionating.
From my side we have the great depth of aviation knowledge (that goes without saying), the five-bar epaulettes, the rhodium-plated tin wings, the pointy-toe shoes, the shirts made of bedsheets and the pants made of recycled black trash bags... I even got a Bajaj endorsement on my "Internationaler Führerschein" when we all know what happened the last time someone went into "Führer" mode but I am willing to take my chances so that everyone else will have to also.
The big question is, of course, "What do you have for me?" Money, yes of course. Not a lot, just a little more than the guy next to me doing the same job; that's all it takes to make me happy, seeing the other guy unhappy.
Power, that goes without saying. I need not just to write the gibberish memos but have them noted and obeyed in whatever way the recipients think best.
The luxury bungalow, flat, room or old, squashed-flat Sony TV carton under the Ikeja Roundabout flyover... whatever, I am not too choosy.
But I must have beverages! Not "hot drinks", just hot drinks. Nescafé, even for only 150 naira per cup (or is this an American-style "unlimited refills" deal?) is not toppest enough for me. Kindly forward the drinks list from the local Starbucks including currrent prices and not those from last week. Also, do they have those blueberry muffins I like?

Neo old chap - comparing the BRC to Starbucks is like sleeping with your sister - feels the same but just something you shouldn't do. You have been too long in the Effriken sun. Me thinks a bit of R&R is required - like about 20 years!!!!!!

Surely Must Have Been Mend
Patode,
You obviously think it was MEND; that's your reason for posting on the WNIWA forum isn't it? This was undoubtedly a MEND attack and I'm surprised they haven't admitted responsibility for it yet! . They have doubtless recruited a disgruntled former BRC employee whose career was ended by Foamy Coolings, but who has a sister still working there. Even at the inflated prices charged in our only 'supa makket' at the Alamo a single Lipton Yellow label tea bag costs N5.2. Add on the huge staff overheads, dash of condensed milk, 2 lumps of St Louis sugar and heating costs for the water it probably actually costs N10 per cup to make. The day my local Starbucks serves me a cup of Nigerian Nescafe instant (costing N240 per tin in Nik Nak, the Alamo) and charges even N150 for it, it will lose my custom permanently. The huge profits generated and being siphoned off to MEND from the BRC coffee scam almost certainly funded MEND's first long-distance attack on this police helicopter near Atlanta . We all need to be on our toppest guard now; what will these wicked men dream up to do next with the coffee scam profits? There's only one way to stop them - restore free tea and coffee in the BRC

You don't say. I thought choppers were only shot at in the Niger Delta. Mend probably have some long range weapons. Anything is possible these days.

NEO,
You will never be a management level staff wallah....as accounting standards are not within your limited array of skills it seems.
I hit my average coffee shop in the US of A....which all surpass the BRC and other BHL venues less Houston.....all provide free refills with staff that seek to keep one's cup full.
That standard puts paid to any comparison of Bristow coffee prices to anywhere else in the world. As to Starbucks versus Bristow....well that is like comparing Budweiser to Theakston's....one is beer and the other is like making love in a canoe....fecking near water.
