Sas/chuks

Nothing wrong with a bit of eccentricity........... I don't drink Gulder though. Just wish they'd repair those bar stools.

Cheers,

NEO,

After a good many years' "eccentricity" and what the company may have called "attitude and conduct difficulties" I reckon you're a reformed character now you're nearly management.

I suppose it makes you a better man knowing what it's like to be on the receiving end of senior management's wrath !!

Jealousy, I suppose ...

The guy got my job! I wanted to be the one to turn off the generator and run down the flag and now it looks as if it shall be NEO.

You got prawns? All I got is camel spiders. Wanna swap?

Stacey,

Long time no see mate. I hear you've gone to the top of the ladder ? Congrats. No sweat about the prawns.

Don't know why I'm getting all this grief, must be triggered by chuks' jealousy at my generator job. I still don't know where the shut off switch is !! Now he's added lowering the flag I'll have to claim extra expenses.........

Cheers,

NEO

NEO,

Seems you have changed from the shy, timid, quaking in yer boots laddie I remember from your first crew change by road. I still have a very fresh recollection of the look of sheer panic when you were "arrested" !

It almost matched the look on the copper's face when I demanded a signed receipt to take to the Chief Pilot to prove I had no involvement in your disappearance.

Would I stand a chance getting a job in the Delta with a JAA frozen ATPL IR(H) and little more than 1000 piston hours?

Job prospects

Bennyjoha,

As long as you have two arms equipped with hands (not absolutely necessary), two foot adorned legs (not really essential), some semblance of a licence (tear-off vouchers for most dry-goods are acceptable), a keen sense of irony, a morbid sense of humour and can balance a whole egg in the palm of your hand - your future is assured.

If you are missing any of the afore mentioned limbs... Please accept my apologies in advance - it's that morbid sense of humour at play.

PS good luck

Doc

job prospects

Just send your CV off to Bristow & CHC and see what they say.
Normally they want you to be type rated on something that they fly in Nigeria, ie Bell 206, 407, 412, Sikorsky S-76, EC-155, Dauphin, Super Puma 332 & 225, S-92. Also expats are generally hired as Captains. If they don't you will get an idea of what you need to be sucessful in finding a job offshore. But you never know until you try! Good Luck!

Man, if I had what you have, I'd stay far from any high-risk region.
I'd probably stay out even with few hundred hours unless having surge of bravado, feeling of invincibility etc. Look at what the guys mention here..
If you already have 1000 TT, JAA fATPL INCLUDING IR(H).... WHY?

I'm just starting out, but tend to entertain myself reading this thread.

Yeah, stating min quals would help to see he's much better off to be forced to go GOM (tax-free money isn't everything).

GOM (rather than the Delta) - as far as I know this means flying from the US which I think requires a US citizenship or a greencard, neither of which are easy to get. Or am I wrong?

Bennyjoha,

As Good Vibs says fire off your resume to both CHC international & Bristow and see what they say. I know that Bristow took on expat co-pilots a couple years ago (even give them a type rating), not sure if that is still the case (maybe NEO could comment).

Greetings,

Finalchecksplease

Ps: Doc, I remember more than one pilot being “legless” in Nigeria (in the BRC bar, house 17 etc…)

The monsoon ditch wore a familiar face ...

The casualty rate was right up there, wasn't it?

The thing is, without alcohol then we would probably see more being shipped out pumped full of Thorazine than we lose to alcohol-related, physical injuries. I am sure that the managers ran the numbers long ago and figured out that supplying the barflies with booze and nightfighters is still the way to go.

Someone really should write a book about this. Stacy, probably. He could start with "Thermy."

Thumbs up

Benny,

You are highly welicome. Just go to our website and I'm sure we will easily find an opening for a bright young man like you. I'm not too sure about shoes in Greenland - do you have any pointy ones in your wardrobe? It would also help if you mention on your CV that your shirt preference is somthing in a nice pastel shade of pink with contrasting trim around the buttonholes. Daddy likes Arsenal a lot, so I hope you like the Gunnars. All our senior managements is far too busy reading book and journal, web surfing and generally doing high powered management job to fly very much, so more thrusting young men looking for advancement is very much what we need. Do you also fly aeroplane? We have more Twinned Ooter coming and will soon be making an offer for chuks to come and do training, so he may be your trainer. With the arrival of our S92 jumboliner we don't expect to find many qualified pilots so mI'd advice you that you may expect to be sent for training very soon. This will be in America for now until our midern new simulator facility at the house of excellence is finished. This is state of the art with both hydraulic and electrical motor, moving legs and enclosed without window so we can check natural sense of balance and instrument flying ability. Come and join the world leaders as our toppest notch fleet expand with motivated young men in pink shirt and pointy shoe

bennyjoha,

You can try Bristow, but I think (don't quote me) there are a lot of Nigerian cadets in the pipeline as the company accelerates it's Nationalisation programme, so FO positions are likely to be taken by them.

chuks,
I still remember the scandal that shook Bristow Nigeria when a certain elderly helicopter Captain had the temerity to smoke and entertain a guest in your room while you were away. The thought of it still sends shivers down my bright yellow spine !! I wonder what the reaction would have been if it had been one of the regional airline pilots ??

I agree about Stacey, what a book that would be. Maybe chuks could be his ghost writer. The whole uncut story of how to set someone up etc........

BJ,
sorry, probably little disambiguation in my brain. I meant, working overseas/as expat/anywhere but home/touring job etc. Didn't mean Gulf. Since you got all it needs for job in North Sea or other 'real' job in my opinion, albeit offshore, why.. Again. Yes, it would be new experience, but for some 'African experience' also means holiday in SA, Egypt or Algeria :-D

MartinCh,

I don't really understand your point. People who work in places like Nigeria, Iraq, Afghanistan or wherever do so for their own reasons, whether it be money, time off, adventure, a combination or any other motivation. Everyone has a choice to work anywhere or not.

NEO, I know everyone's got his own motives and decides for himself.
I can't comment on mil flying and their reasons as I'd never do it.

I didn't exactly compare Nigeria and war zones :-)
I also think that going to Nigeria now and having worked there for couple years or a decade makes a difference. Knowing the situation, being used to higher security etc. There also aren't that many ex-mil guys around starting their civilian heli career.

My Nigerian friend with plank experience from the US told me he'd like to return home eventually (now living in Belfast) and do some bush flying - even outside Nigeria. He also likes the idea of flying helicopters professionally, but says he's too old (30s??) or it's too hard to change things..

Well, for a guy with US green card and EU passport, top notch camo for field work in Africa (being Nigerian), almost 1000 TT incl multiprop charter hours, working outside aviation (don't ask me why, I did already), it's bit strange to me.
He's also not arsed to do JAA ATPL theory.

Not everyone working here (or other places like it) is ex military. Like I said, the choice is an easy one. Come or not, stay or walk.

Don't knock it until you've tried it............
