Fishboy. I agree, I had a birdstike in a gazelle a few years ago. A sparrow got me right between the eyes. Luckily I had just put my visor down. I was sat in the back at the time. It went between the two crew in the front without touching them and I was covered in bird guts and perspex.
I was flying the above mentioned cab!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously thou............ do you need a helmet. NO is the answer unless your flying military aircraft.

SPH4B from Helicopter helmets in Hartford Conn. $700 + change. Oregon aero hush kit + zeta liner, I'm thinking it was around $150 & CEP kit from CEP USA $89 bucks, It all adds up to less than a 1000 bucks and does not weigh that much more than the EXPENSIVE Euro options. Great value, great comfort, & awesome performance. I wear one over 700hrs.+ /yr and I love this set up.

In short - YES!! A number of us where I work have all recently been given Alpha Eagles and a few have needed replacement visors already due to the amount of scratches on them! And I thought it was just us being fussy!

We just had a number at work that have all had visors replaced in under 2 months. I understand that they are now increasing the thickness of the cover by another millimetre or so to increase rigidity to stop the flexing which is causing the scratching.

Im not 100% sure if they're out yet, the rep was just continually apologising and telling us what they were doing about it. That said they were good and got the issue soretd out asap.

I noticed that mine has acquired some quite noticable scratching on the tinted visor.
Are you dealing with the guys at Headset Services to get the problem sorted out?

I had a company-issued Alpha a few years ago and had a problem with the flexible visor cover scratching the outer visor. I bought my own Alpha a year ago and ordered it with the NVG rigid visor and I am much happier with it, no scratching at all. I think its a fantastic helmet for me, we all have different requirements and tastes.

I purchased an Alpha Eagle about a year ago and the tinted visor is now totally stuffed. When carrying it around in a helmet bag the visor cover scratches crap out of the visor. I'm about to get back to the distributor and winge.

Gallet - pretection standards failed??
I just heard the rumor that the Gallet helmet doesn't meet certain requirements/standards for side impact... can anyone confirm this or does anybody have information regarding this??

Alpha Eagle vs. Alpha 200
hi all...sorry to make another thread on this. i had asked about it on the helmets thread but i'm afraid it may go unnoticed there. does anyone have experience with both these models of alpha helmets, and if so could you tell me the differences, pros/cons, etc., of each? i'm looking to buy a new bone dome in the near future and am having trouble deciding what to get. thanks again.

Alpha Eagle is the newer version and is a bit lighter.
You can get them as standard or ANR versions.
I have tried both - the 200 after years of use was very comfy - the Eagle I tried ( which was a loan helmet ) wasn't as good in that respect, but I suspect it was because it hadn't been properly fitted to me.
The Eagle has a ratcheting mechanism for adjusting up the fit / tightness of the nape pad, compared to pulling the strings and locking them off under a screw head on the 200.
The internal padding is a little different - especially around the forehead region - best advice is to make sure you get it properly fitted to you by someone that knows what they are doing !
I spoke to a colleague a few months back that HAS had a new Eagle - properly fitted to them - and he assures me that it is more comfortable than his old 200.
There are fewer sizes of Eagle to choose from, but ( apparantly ) the range is designed to accommodate most head sizes.
Other benefits of the Eagle are that you can get a replacement rigid visor cover ( Kevlar ), for mounting an NVG bracket onto. This allows the visor to remain protected under the rigid cover.
Here's some pic's to show the difference :

AFAIK this is not an available option for the 200 and any bracket has to be mounted directly onto the shell.
The rigid visor cover is replaced by a velvet cover, and the visor cannot be lowered when the NVG's are attached.

As a frequent user and abuser of both....
Eagle is much better for all reasons mentioned, fitting once done is better than 200.
Nape adjuster is excellent especially for NVG use and when sweaty head causes slipage.
NVG: Both can use the new Kevlar rigid visor with the new ANVIS mount (I can try to add photo but no promises) not the one shown in coco's phot, that has been superseeded by a really robust and easy to use mod.
