ATR range
I was amazed when I looked in Sabre that American Eagle operates a 508 mile segment with an ATR-42 from San Juan to Canouan Island (CIW). The flight itself is even 2h28m, a terribly long flight for that airplane.
Is this at the max of the ATR-42s range? |
With 48 passengers and their luggages, the ATR 42-300 can fly 970 NM (1800 km) in ISA/ no wind conditions with reserves.
But without paylod, it can fly as far as 2500 NM (4630 km). FLEXJET |

The longest non-stop ATR sector was by Air Tahiti in French Polynesia flying from Gambier Island to/from Papeete a Great Circle Distance of 1019 sm (885 nm) with a scheduled time of over 4 hours. The ATR certainly has the range to fly such long sectors, but whether the passengers appreciate it is another matter! |

------------------------------ I was amazed when I looked in Sabre that American Eagle operates a 508 mile segment with an ATR-42 from San Juan to Canouan Island (CIW). ------------------------------ I've been a pax on an AA Eagle ATR from SJU to Tobago, which I measure to be 615 sm great circle. I'd heard that they used GPS navigation on this run to avoid having to follow the island chain, a considerably longer route. Eagle keeps its weight down in the Caribbean by not carrying life (flotation) vests. |
What a horrible thought!
And in a -300! |
