Pitot static leak checks

When performing a leak check some information showed that the pressure should be changed so that the ASI reads 150kts and then you wait 3 minutes and if it has changed by more than 5kts you have a problem.

If you do have a problem you then take readings for the amount of leak at different initail ASI readings. How do you then interpret these results, I'm assuming that the amount of leak would normally reduce with the initial reading set but what would that mean, except that there is a leak. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

A 5 knot leak in 3 minutes with 150 knots applied was typically taught as an acceptable standard for a non-pressurised light aircraft when the maintenance manual may not specify any actual leak rates. I think CAIP's even contained this when I was training 30-odd years ago. Once you get into higher altitude pressurised types, many MMs allow no leak at all.
