Question on gaining an FAA licence from a CAA licence. :)
 

Hi guys! A few years ago myself and some friends went to Florida on holiday. They were all UK CAA PPL holders. To get their FAA licence they just pitched up at an FAA office and handed the CAA licence over! They then were given an FAA PPL.

The question is......I am going back to Florida on holiday in August. I now have a UK CPL/IR "Frozen" ATPL. Can I just show up and get an FAA CPL/IR or ATP or would I just get a PPL??? If so, would my Saab 340 and Boeing 757/767 ratings be valid??? (Not that I want to work there, I was just curious!! :) )

Also does anyone have the address for the FAA in Orlando???

Takes about 5mn from the terminal to the FAA building, $4 if U take a cab (all cab drivers know the place anyway).

As for your CPL, I believe U will be issued an FAA CPL on which it will state something like "issued on the basis of UK CPL nr .... & having the same validity period". Dunno about the xfr of an IR. Check the current FARs for that on www.faa.gov or other aviation websites (eg www.landings.com).

Hey...I regularly work with the people from Orlando FSDO.

Pitch up there with any form of UK licence and you will get an FAA Private Licence only.

Instrument qualifications will be granted on passing a written examination on IFR rules and procedures in USA.
