Routes into flying

I am currently a Capt with one of the UK main airlines. I have been asked to go back to my old school to do a chat about flying and in particular routes to get into flying. I am a bit out of date to put it mildly with all the details, JAA,CAA, CPL, BCPL etc. Can anyone here point me towards a definitive reference or source of information to answer these questions. I have already tried ppsc who were unable to help.

Thanks

You could spend £21 on Clive Hughes' "Guide to Getting a CPL" www.ppl-atpl.demon.co.uk

I only got my IR last year and I'm already out of date.

I believe the routes are as follows.

Approved Frozen ATPL course.
Full time ab-initio covering all ground school (and MCC if you're lucky). Approx 185 hours flying (again if your'e lucky).

Modular route.
PPL
Hour Building to 200(?) Hours
JAA Written subjects
JAA CPL Flying course
More Hours(?)
JAA I/R Flying Course
MCC course
Unemployment.
Depression
FI rating
Poverty Line
1500 Hours
F/O Position on T/P (If you're lucky)

Try teaching, or any other profession. Its cheaper.

or RAF. That way we'll all pay for their flying so they can defend Queen and country. Then leave and join half way up the commercial ladder.

Someone else will have to fill in the gaps.

Sorry for getting carried away. I'm at my desk waiting for GO to call. Still. getting more fed up by the month.
