JAR conversion with 500 multi-crew?

I have often read that certain exemptions apply if you have 500 hours in a certified multi-crew aircraft, what differense exactly does this make in the conversion process?

my apologies to the spelling police,of course that should read "DIFFERENCE"! :o

If you have 500 hours in 2 crew operations you are exempt from the MCC and having to do the full JAR IR 55 hours worth. (minus 5 hours). If you have the 500 hours, you either have to do a check ride on the two pilot type with a CAA examiner observing or if you aren't in current two pilot type flying, a JAR type rating with a check ride.
Quite a significant saving in costs.
From my rough estimate, £13,000 for the IR and ~£2500 for the MCC v's £8,000 - £12,000 for the cheapest type rating.

Cheers Reddo, still a little bit of a grey area however, does this mean that all i would have to do is have a checkride with a CAA examiner on my current type?! Surely there must be more to it than that!

I believe the words are "if you are in current flying practice and have more than 500 hours on that type, then all you need to do is a check ride" (with the ILS and NDB thrown in). This must be observed by a CAA examiner. The info is readily available from the CAA, try their website. CAA-SRG I think helps.

VOTZE the exact same thread is in the "Wannabee" forum under "barking up the wrong tree?"

Do these 500 hrs have to be as Captain or can they be as FO?.. (bare with me I haven't been near any large machines yet!)

FO is acceptable. All this info is available from the CAA. Either email them or check out their website.
