Ace The Technical Pilot Interview - mistakes list
 

Hi all,

I know it's well known that this book contains mistakes but does anyone have a full list of them?

Everyone knows about the obvious mistake within the lift formula, that could just be a typo or mistranslation but I think I have spotted at least 2 more within the performance section. Anybody have a full list?

I bought this book to prepare for some interviews a good year ago and found it very poor... Next time I'll brush up using the good old ATPL manuals!

I haven't read the whole of "Ace the technical pilot interview", but I noticed that some things have been picked from other sources. Particularly, material on high speed flight (such as Mach tuck and Mach trimmers) looks almost taken out word for word from "Handling the big jets" (D.P. Davies). I'd probably rely on the latter for aerodynamics/jet engines/performance, especially in the context of jet a/c flying, and there are good comparisons between straight wing (piston) and swept wing (jet) a/c. If you haven't got it yet, I'd give the book a thought. Just an idea.

The publisher's dim-witted approach to editing and quality assurance...

The book sellers' inability to spot a turkey when it's offered to them...

Where the book goes on on a formula to figure out cloudbase I believe is wrong.

Again ATPL notes would be worth reading.

There are more mistakes of course.

I often get youngsters asking for advice. So which books on the subject are worth reading, besides HTBJs.

I think the "Ace..." book is a good source of questions but yes, a lot of the answers contain imprecisions and errors, more or less blatant as the case may be.
Maybe usable as source and then finding your answers in the good ole ATPL notes? :hmm:
Miles Magister, what sort of youngsters? If without ATPL preparation perhaps books such as Flightwise 1&2. HTBJ is pretty "heavy going" (no pun...) if you haven't been at least through some ATPL groundschool.
