TCAS in Brazil aerospace
Hello, I´m looking for some information about tcas in Sao Paulo, Curitiba, Rio and Porto Alegre in brazil. Is possible to operate or fly a commercial airplane WITHOUT TCAS (tcas installed but not working) in those aerospaces? If so, where I can find that information.
Besides I need more information about, Santiago - Chile, Buenos Aires - Argentina. Thanks !!!!!!!:):):) |

You could try here Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil It appears, from this document at least, that TCAS II is mandatory for all aircraft with more than 19 seats and more than 5700kg TOW, in all national airspace. This document is just a summary, but the relevant regulations are Regulamento Brasileiro de Homologação Aeronáutica (RBHA) 121 and 135 which are also available on the site. You could contact ANAC directly to be absolutely sure. Alemaobaiano |
I always offset 1R while en-route in Brazil nowadays.
Is it not a bit simplistic to ask about TCAS serviceability though? Surely it is as much as question of mandating the use of Mode C with altitude (as opposed to switching off the txpdr) so that TCAS equipped aircraft will at least be warned of other aircraft in the vicinity, even if not afforded full Collision Avoidance for which both need serviceable mode S working? Personally I would obviously prefer everyone to have full mode S 100% of the time, but you have to make allowances for defects away from base, and for me so long as the aircraft has serviceable mode C that should suffice. |
