Flight Deck Visits
 

Its such a shame I can't take my little boy to visit the flight deck in flight. I used to be glazed over with wonder for days after visits when I was in my teens. Even as an adult PPL I nearly always asked to visit, and once got invited back for a jump seat view of the approach and landing...(AirUK :D). On a 744 flight to LAX once I was up front for a good 20mins while the Captain explained, and demonstrated amongst other things, how nicely the 747 responded to control inputs. My colleague was squirming with embarrasment when I asked the stewardess if I could visit!

Its seems such an injustice that today's generation are denied this wonderful insight.

Anyway, my question which I expect has been asked before, does anyone believe the policy of locked flightdeck door is likely to thaw over the next few years?...and do flightcrews think its a proportional precaution to the risk/threat?

If you were ferrying an aircraft for example, and there were no other PAX apart from maybe a relative (is this allowed? guess not so academic question in reality?) would you be okay to let them sit in the jump seat?

I personally dont think flight deck visits will ever be allowed again, thanks to our ever changing and more frightening world.

And i bet the Pilots secretely prefer it, LOL ppl crowding into their already tiny space :bored:

Tis a bit of a shame tho, i agree with you.

imho things will never change back to what they were with in flight visits.

Why?

Well, imagine you are the politician in charge of such matters and you decide to change things back to how they were and then another incident occurs.

You will be culpable and hung out to dry. There is no upside.

The best that can be hoped for is some relaxation for jumpseats to vetted individuals.

Not so. We would much rather it was back to the old days. You got to meet some very interesting visitors. The look on some wide eyed kids face was worth it too.

But I agree - it will never change back to this, sadly.
