What airliner is most fun to fly?
Hi, I was just wondering, for all you pilots out there who've flown more than one type, which did you find most fun to fly?
|
777, no way! I fly one at the moment and sure it has all the gizmos and whizz-bang technology but even a half-trained monkey could fly it! For fun, try the F-28, no great hot-rod compared to 757's etc. but an absolute delight to pole around, very light ailerons, more a Baron feel than a transport category jet. 300kts to 10 nm. @ 3,000' then that fantastic speed-brake ( fixit lever),tried 727's ,767's and the Bae146(utter crap) but theF-28 has fond memories.

Big aeroplane: The Fokker 100 - a delight to pole by hand, yet with systems and automatics that put its Toulousean antecedents to shame. And the Boeings don't even get close.
Littler aeroplane: The de Havilland Dove 8 - again, smashing fun to pilot, and with such character (NB: fond remarks DO NOT apply to engine-out approaches - either in their frequency of unintentional occurrence or the handling qualities of the aeroplane). The BN2 is also a laugh, but has so many downfalls that I can't quite bring myself to list it as a favourite. Little aeroplane: Toss-up between the DHC1 Chipmunk and the Grumman AA5A. Both huge fun to fly and teach in. |
Beech 1900. 248 to the marker, no problem. Also, if you can see it over the nose, you can land on it.

I'm surprised the DC9-10 (or -20) doesn't get a mention. Never flew it myself but always wanted to.

Some years ago we converted the RAF VC-10s into Tankers. The BAe test pilots were always excited about coming to fly it and would often bring their mates to have a go.

I used to fly the Fokker 50, that was fun, especially with a strong crosswind.
Boeing 737, I love the 3/400 but the 8/900 is not so fun especially when it's heavy and greek ATC keep you high!:ugh: |
