Modern instruments?

Not sure if I am in the correct forum, but if not, I am sure it will be move appropriately.

Modern instruments, ie. ring laser gyros.

With such instruments, is it necessary to conduct the taxi checks as one did with conventional gyros such as, left turn, numbers getting smaller, ball to the right, no topple...?

you can as a gross error check/croscheck, but such instruments when initialized and automatically cross checked, with the standbys maybe?

no 'ball' on boeings past 757/767 generation IIRC

somebody will tell you the right answer sooner or later :}

rhov :)

I have an ITVV (Intelligent Television and Video) film of a 747-400 trip to San Fran. On taxi they did check the instruments in the turns if that helps.

At the end of the day responses to this question are going to be in relation to whether or not operators have "let go" of the old steam driven technology and the associated procedures.

In a fully digital system, as now exists, the internal cross checking and warnings are numerous in the extreme.

In the old days, we used to do it, now, we just do a full "Instrument Credibility Check" at the Pre-Start phase.:ok:
