Selecting Alternates on flight plans

You HAVE to have two alternates with forecast weather suitable + and - 1 hr ETA if you are departing for a destination that has weather below your mimima.

In fine weather I cannot see the benefit nominating two and taking fuel for two. You could take fuel for a further alternate which would allow you the option to go to a closer one when there are unpedictable weather phenomena such as SN or TS, or just load EXTRA fuel.

I was thinking along the same lines that under JAR OPS you can have as many as you want on your company Operational Flight Plan (or PLOG as many still refer to them as), including no alternate if you meet other criteria, but on re-reading I think he means how many can you put on the actual flight plan form sent to Eurocontrol......

As I remember, the form only has space for two alternates.

If the flightplan concerned is the CA48/RAF2919 then there is only room for 2 alternates.
