Helicopters to Airlines
I'd like your input on attempting to "cross-over" to the airline industry. I have my ATP (H), CFII (H) and CPL & IR MEL in fixed wing. I have about 1400 hours, all but 100 are in rotary wing. What are my prospects with the regionals? I should be flying about 5 - 10 hours a month on a mulit-engine charter gig. Am I doomed to helicopters? Should I get my CFI (A) and build time in FW? I appreciate the input.

Hiya Bayou06,
I was in exactly the same position, albiet with about 4000 hours on heavy helo's. All I needed was what it seems you have, CPL/Multi IR. The airline industry is pretty bouyant at the moment and there are plenty of jobs out there for an experienced pilot. The requirment to have some 'heavy jet' behind you may limit you in a couple of companies but I didn't find too many problems. I am now flying around in a shiny new airbus for a legacy company so the opportunities exist. Good luck :ok: |
