is searching for female helicopter pilots to be on a 207 foot research vessel.
We will be extracting a pirate sunken treasure off the coast of Peru. And will
be on the seven seas. Robinson R44 Clipper with pop up floats aboard, with
helideck and helicopter garage. A pilot-mechanic would be a super plus,

This I saw on PPrune as a banner ad and as usual i thought i'd have a read and i noticed that it asked for Female pilots.

Surely in this day and age this is illegal or as it's biased towards women maybe its isn't. Then i read the rest of the ad and thought its a wind up.....any thoughts.

Sounds as though it may have been from good old Peter Stringfella! I can only guess at the poor girls uniform, mind you, would make good viewing on flightlevel350.com!

Finally someone on this site with half a brain cell....thanks for a serious opinion as to why a female pilot is required.

Sorry but this industry is discriminatory and if you think it isn't take a look at how many female musterers are out there, how many female pilots are employed in remote single pilot ops, blah blah blah.... Ok so you don't see an advertisement for a male pilot but there is still a fair few employers out there who behind closed doors do not employ female pilots - it's a fact! You guys need to get out more rather than worry why one job in the history of heli flying has required a female pilot - yes - fell off my chair when I saw it.

Equality should mean equality.

Just as those discriminatory employers behind closed doors can't specify they want male pilots, no one should be able to specify they want female pilots, because it's discriminatory. Or has the law changed?

If you trully think that there is equality in this industry you are living in dream world!

There are many employers out there who employ female pilots and one of their reasons (probably not the most important) is that in a tourism operation they feel that customers respond positively to a female pilot - and I am generalising here. Your industry in the UK is much different to that here in Australia for the smaller aircraft and discrimiation happens - we live with it and it is a pleasant surprise to see a little swing. There is probably a very good reason for wanting a female pilot and without knowing it I think you should all just calm down.

You are all getting your knickers in a twist because a job add actually had the balls to say what they really wanted rather than just letting a heap of applicants apply who's resumes they would probably use for toilet paper on their 207ft reesearch vessel!

Must be hard keeping your helicopter straight and level with that huge chip on your shoulder strickers;)

Point being, discrimination law (in the UK) prevents asking for male/female/white/black/straight/gay specifically. You can't apply the law just when it suits you.

Obviously the law is different wherever this company operates.

That's an interesting comment, from personal experience even nowadays there are always several pax who raise their eyebrows whenever they hear a female voice from the flight deck, followed by the inevitable parking jokes!

Most employers employ female pilots because they are pilots and they were (among) the best they interviewed for the job. At least that's what I like to think.

I'm not getting into a spitting competition with you over your imaginary chip on my shoulder. As previously stated your industry in the UK is very different to the one here for a low hour pilot, I know, cause I started out in the UK. The 'discrimination' against those of us that wear glasses is what forced me to pursue a career here in Australia.

Discrimiation law in the UK is irrelevant as this position is no where near the UK - well it wasn't the last time I looked anyway.

Wouldn't you rather know upfront what an employer is looking for rather than wasting your time applying and praying for a job that you have absolutely no chance of getting - I know I would?

Hey, this could be a boat (or is it a ship) full of lesbians who feel threatened by the mere presence of a gentleman? Maybe they only have dungarees to wear and microbiotic macrame and yoghurt to eat? A gentleman just couldn't survive! Or maybe it's for Health and Safety reasons. Aside from the pc/non-pc approach to the advert, does anyone know anything about The Strategic Defense of the Environment Group, Inc? I reckon the ad has been posted by Captain Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of the Caribbean meself .... If the job involves flying Johnny Depp around, I might have to get a helicopter rating :D

Perhaps Kamal Benjelloun is Cap'n Sparrow's pseudonym..... Perhaps he's not a pirate after all, but a buckswashling philanthropic environmentalist, a pirate with a strong social conscience.... The plot thickens....

I would really like to see if this is for real, wonder how many female chopper pilots/engineers are out there that would actually apply for a job which specified wanting a female.

Strickers as for the discrimination against females with low hours in oz, don't want to start a slinging match but I would have to disagree with you on that one, I have flown remote single pilot ops and haven't come across many probs, but that said, the jobs they didn't let me do because I'm a chik are the ones I didn't want to do any way so the boys were welcome to them.

But keep us posted I would love to hear why they only wanted females.
