Flight deck access revised?

Hi all,

I seem to remember a while back reading that the CAA are looking at revising the law on flight deck access/jumpseat rides. I was wondering if this has happened or is happening?
Secondly do you think the law will ever be changed to the point whereby my parents/sister/girlfriend/wife etc will be able to sit on the jumpseat and watch me at work?

Thanks in Advance

I'm pretty sure you have only heard rumours, and gone are the days when that will be possible again. Have you forgotten Mukonyi? It's not necessarily that your relatives are a significant risk (though they would be a fairly unknown quantity on the flightdeck), but there will inevitably be increased traffic through the door (drinks/meals/toilet visits) which increases risk.

So..............

I can't take my wife or son who I feel I know reasonably well, but my company require me to transport personnel on the flightdeck from time to time. These people may or may not be airside pass holders, I don't know them, I don't know what background checks the company have done on them - strange isn't it ?

A very short 2 letter answer to anybody you don't know. Nobody can 'require' you to carry anybody on your flight deck. A CAA inspector can demand access as long as you are reasonably satisfied as to his credentials, but that is it. Who can 'require' you to carry company personnel? It's your space and nobody elses.

Responsibility

A friend of mine always says that whatever goes wrong on an aeroplane, "It's always the Pilot's fault".

I suppose you have to take responsibility for every decision you make and remember to maintain the "IC" in PIC.
