Why are there differences in type rating costs

G'day all,

I've been going through the costs of how much it would cost to buy a type rating when i came across something i thought was interesting. The following are prices in US$ and the length of training (i'm not sure how up to date the prices are):

B737NG $22 095 (144hrs)
B737 Classic $9 995 (181.5hrs)
B777 $17 570 (135hrs)

Can anybody tell me why a 737NG rating costs over twice as much as a classic rating for less training hours?

Something i found intereseting was the a 777 rating is cheaper than a 737NG rating and requires less training time than both 737 types. Anybody know why this is? Is the 777 less systems instensive than a 737 and easier to fly?

Thanks in advance

Capt C :)

I suspect that the concept of supply and demand is at work here. Rather like oil prices or a Las Vegas hotel room during a big convention or event. When everyone wants it, the prices are up. I understand G-V ratings are still retailing above $30,000. Better deals for bigger operators.

Supply and demand. That's it. The B744 Type is down to $13000 at PanAm Flight Academy.
