Eagerbeaver, you could try this link FAA callsign site .

This is guidance from the FAA, but maybe it will give you a hint on where to apply on the UK side.

Try CAA (Directorate of Airspace Policy)

I called the CAA about it and got to talk to a NATS person in the end.

Are you applying as an individual or a company.

Apparently an individual can't have a call sign.

Any advances would be interesting.

I joined a flying club just to get one. Saves a lot of embarrassment when you call the tower and start off xxx Tower, Golf Alpha, sorry correction ....Golf foxtrot.

Perhaps it is just me who gets confused.

It's not a National thing - it's International - and is administered by ICAO (Montreal).

Should be on their website - there MAY be a reference in the front of CAP412 (the UK Radio Telephony book - available on line through the CAA website).

The system is established and co-ordinated by ICAO but individual States administer callsigns allocated to operators based in their country.
