Jetstream 31 question
 

Hi,
Are there any variants of the jetstream 31 (BA31). If there are, does anyone know what they are? ... ie BA31-200, BA31-300, etc etc Thanks for any input!:cool:

I think the Jetstream 32 is a variant of the 31...

I have a J3100 type rating. I mostly flew the J3200. I am quite certain that there are no derivatives ie J3100-100,200,300. Instead BAe just improved the overall design and developed the J3200. Some of the changes are two overwing exits, improved APR system incase of engine failure. I can not remember all the improvements. I hope this answers your question.

There is the original J31

Then they produced a J32 which has 1050SHP engines and slightly better engineering features, like you don't need to empty the tanks to change a fuel pump. And it also has automatic cooler flaps.

There is also the EDAM option which is for better performance. It looks like 2 wedges either side of the engines.

Type rating is valid for both. And there is no currency issues swapping between them.

Presumably the recently retired RAF Jetstream T1 is also a variant of the J31, or vice versa? The J32 is also sometimes referred to as a Super J31.

I thought the RAF ones were just bog standard. In fact i think they are in the middle of disposing of them just now.


The J32 is called super J31 most places other than the UK. The CAA won't allow super J31. And also the Vmo is 20 knts less in the UK than any where else.

The Jetstream 31 superseded the old Handley Page 31 which the RAF used, the latter had French Astazou engines whereas the 31 has Garrets.
