War Zone Insurance?
Now that it would seem that hostilities are inevitable, what is the position with regards to insurance when you operate in the US or UK, in what will be, technically, a war zone?
Many insurances do not accept risks due to "acts of war". Any insurance/legal experts care to comment? |
On a U.S. insurance quote it states:
War Risks, Hi-Jacking, Terrorism, Confiscation and Other Perils Liability &/or Physical Damage - NOT COVERED/NOT AVAILABLE. |
For U.S. flag aircraft operating under military charter, humanitarian missions and other missions the U.S> govt is the insureer of last resort and provides premium and non premium war risk insurance.
Can not believe other countries do not do likewise. |
Would crew normally be covered whilst RON in "war zone"?
|
Not sure.
The airlines seem mostly worried about hull. I have seen claims for aircraft equipment allegedly damaged because of war risks factors (ground fire). Turned out the engine was all clapped out and past due for overhaul. Right there it is advantagous to also be the regulator because the engine was impounded for investigation and it was amazing how fast the claim went away. |
