What was going on outside STN perimeter Friday 7 March?
Just landed on GO312, left the airport at approx 14:00 via Coopers End roundabout, then the Elsenham/Thaxted road.
On the Three Horseshoes pub junction of the Elsenham/Thaxted road, right under runway 23 threshold, there was the Essex Police heli hovering to one side (brave men!), and four police cars/Land Rover across the junction, and a number of police, some armed, were sniffing around in the undergrowth under the threshold. Anyone know what they were up to? (just being nosy:D). |
"Look East", lunchtime broadcast 12 March said a car had been stopped and a quantity of arms seized. Of course, this is five days later.
Alternatively, it was some very confused peaceniks waiting to throw rotten vegetables at B52s. |
It has since been reported (in the Eastern Daily Press today), that a quantity of arms were found in the vehicle/s concerned, but the police had stopped them at this location - they had been following them on the M11 for a considerable time, and were acting on "information recieved".
Purely coincidental that they were where you saw them. |
Just to add to niknak's post, the guns did not come in through the airport, but in a lorry load of frozen chickens, which had been subject to a tip off from Europe, and monitored throughout it's journey.
Good work the boys in blue. |
Thanks for the info guys - but the news reports say the car containing the guns was stopped at J7 on the M11, which is about 20 miles away from where I saw the heli/police, so the mystery continues.......
