Cigarettes/Accidents

When cigarette smoking was allowed on passenger aircraft can anyone tell me if any serious incidents were contributed to the fact that someone was smoking?

Seems to me that the effects of booze (not on the pilots :) ) has caused more incidents inflight rather than the fags.

Is it time for an alchahol ban????

Smoking kills!

Here is a classic example - toilet waste bin fire caused by a discarded cigarette.

There have been a number of unexplained in-flight fires, but none that I am aware of has ever been definitely proven to have been caused by cigarettes. The two most commonly cited examples are the Varig 707 and Air Canada DC-9

While the first remains unsolved, the second one had an entirely different cause, urban legend notwithstanding.

There is a list of IFF accidents here.
