when does a rating expire?
 

Could somebody enlighten me as how long a rating is valid for on a UK ATPL? I flew the BAe 146 ( 900 hrs on type, last flown in Jan 2001) and now fly something else... If I wanted to fly a 146 again, will I need to undergo any additional training apart from the company OPC/LPC? Someone recently told me that it was only valid for 2 years?

I believe that all Perf A aircraft are valid for 5 years.
If you are not current all you have to do to keep the rating for another 5 years, is to do basically 1 circuit which you will get an engine failure at or above V1 and a 1 engine out ILS to land.
( perhaps a go around aswell, I'm not quite sure )

A type rating is valid for one year. You can revalidate it or renew it (within 5 years of expiry) by passing an LPC - Licensing Proficiency Check, the contents of which are also on the above web site. After 5 years you can expect retraining and a Licensing Skill Test.
