Lingering SOLI issues

On the matter of brexit related SOLI from UK to IAA, if one's license application process had been completed before 31 December but had not actually sent the UK license in for exchange due to the IAA offices being shut with covid restrictions, would it still be necessary to do the license exchange at all since the UK license is no longer an EASA item?

Yes. I tried this on with the IAA in an attempt to retain a UK licence and save myself going through the now open CAA process. They weren’t having it and refused to send my new IAA licence until I sent in my UK one.

That said, this was in January so who knows what may have happened since then.

Interesting question. Do they need the physical proof that the pilot is still in possession of the license? In that case they could send both licenses back.
