Humanitarian Aviation
 

Hey there everyone, I'm an aspiring pilot and I love the idea of humanitarian aviation, ie. The red cross, air serv, echo flight, the UN, etc. I have heard however that they tend to contract out to mostly South African contractors. I have emailed some of these trying to find out hour requirements etc so that I know my goals. Any chance anyone on here could connect me with someone that does this kind of flying so I could ask them or would anyone know any other humanitarian aviation organisations?

I'm not completely familiar with the pay for these types of operations but don't think they pay terribly well.

My son flew for Air Serv when they had operations in Kabul. The pay was poor to say the least. But if experience has monetary value, he was very well paid.

Thanks, the pay doesn't particularly bother me it's more the experience. Did he have much flight hours etc?

I can't remember exactly but he had some KA200 time, done some CFI stuff and had been flying a DHC-8 for a US regional for maybe two years ? Something like that...maybe 1500-2,000 hours ?

Decided he wanted an "adventure" and needed to have it while he was young and before needing to settle down to a "real" flying career. He has stories...

I don't think he has any Air Serv contacts these days. He was flying the KA200 back in Kabul. Anything I see of Air Serv these days is C208 in Africa. Not sure what else they have.
