A320/1 pack flow fuel consumption?
Hello guys
Im new in this website and its my first time posting.. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is ahmed and i am a first officer at abudhabi based etihad airways. Its a pleasure to meet you all. My question is as described in the subject. How much fuel does pack flows LO NORM HI consume in the a320 family? There are no information shown in the respective FCOM and FCTM. Otherwise i mightve missed it. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers to all |
Hello Ahmed and Welcome on PPRuNe.
I had a quick look but can't find it in the latest FCOM/FCTM, But in the FCOM from November 2014, it's written: When passenger numbers permit, LO ( ECON) modes saves up to 0.5% of fuel. FCOM: Procedures- Supplementary Procedures- Green operating Procedures- Flight phases- After Start. The Green procedure has now been moved in the FCTM but I could not find that reference anymore. |

I had a quick look but can't find it in the latest FCOM/FCTM, But in the FCOM from November 2014, it's written: Applicable to A319/320/321. Thanks again for the greetings and glad to be part of thr family |
Hello!
There seems to be a bit more information about the difference in fuel consumption when using pack flow LO vs NORM. I've been using the HI setting these last days a bit more, as a result of both operating mainly near the Equator at sea level (Caribbean) airports and a bit of a heat wave (+30C OAT). The FCOM states to use the HI setting in "abnormally hot and humid conditions" (both fulfilled!!!) but I'm just curious as to what the additional fuel burn vs NORM is. While this setting does nothing while the packs are on APU, the cabin (and the cockpit!) is still hot in the early stages of the flight, so the packs actually do run on engine bleeds at the HI setting. Any information on this? Regards! |
I'd suggest that if the figures are not to be found in the manuals then Airbus does not consider the difference significant enough to matter.
After all, you can't calculate a fuel plan anywhere close to 0.5% accuracy so it is pointless worrying about pack usege. |

Found this Airbus document which has some interesting data from 2004 - https://ansperformance.eu/library/ai...el-economy.pdf

E.P.: I don't get any measurable extra fuel burn from HI as I like to re-select NORM when passing FL100. What's your procedure?

Roger that. We might be operating in ISA+20 in the peak months, so I reckoned FL100 = OAT 15 should be chilled enough for the NORM to work and me to stop caring. However, beyond certain age the ducts and temperature sensors require a lot of delicate maintenance
