A320 Flap 3 landing and stability by 1000AAL
Hello everybody,
I'd like to ask your opinion. A320 wind calm, platform altitude high, about 4000AAL. I like intercepting GS with flap1, then 2000AAL flap 2, gear down flap 3 and full. By 1000AAL engine spooled. In a flap3 landing even if inside the criteria, engine spooled below 1000AAL, how do you adapt the standard decelerated approach technique for a flap3 landing? |
Personally, I prefer to join the glide with Flaps 2, but that's just me...
My techique for Flaps 3 landing is not appreciably different from Flaps Full, as far as deceleration is concerned. Why would it be? The only change is that you're decelerating to a higher speed than with Flaps Full. |
Hi!
Yes, I see many colleagues intercepting in flap2, and with tailwind or heavy weight I intercept in F2 too. As for flap3, I see a lower deceleration than with flap full, maybe it’s just my perception but I think that the last stage of flap gives a huge help in deceleration top, but again my experience is still little... |
I would agree with your perception, which is a sensible one seeing as there is less drag with 3 than with Full. Ergo, deceleration will not be as rapid, but not to the extent where it's a huge factor. At least not in my experience (little over 42 months on the airplane).
