Quick question on your company's policy on parking Brakes...

Perhaps your company has one, perhaps not.

Perhaps it is just plain old airmanship but...

Assuming you are not in an emergency situation…

What is your company's policy/SOP say when it comes to setting the parking brakes “ON” after you have been "cleared to position and hold" on a runway for some sort of ATC delay?

Various companies = various SOP's, if any. I've heard of a blanket rule that a/c stopped = Pk Bk ON. I once was told by TC from a national major, (no SOP) that IHO setting Pk Bk ON on the runway was not a good idea in case it stuck on. Wow, I thought, you could 'burn out' thinking of all the trivia that could go wrong, but never has. Idle thrust on a big light a/c will roll you along quite softly if you become distracted.
I suspect 10 CP's 10 opinions.

Unusual accident to a DC-8 that attempted a take off on an icy runway with brake pressure applied. Reason for locked brakes not determined.

We use an old device called "Common Sense"; old fashioned, little paperwork, maximum discretion.
