Lightning
 

I am studying the effects of lightning on people and equipment in poorly grounded structures. I would like to hear from anyone who was in an aircraft that received a lightning hit either while airborne or on the ground. I would like to know the season, location, height (Or altitude/flight level), category and class of aircraft and what the immediate effects were on equipment and people. Did the strike disable anything permanently or did it just pop breakers etc? I don't need to know aircraft type and I don't want to know the airline. Please respond by posting or email in my profile.

How about searching the database of the NTSB. Just try with the term "lightning strike" ... There is also another database, would have to look for the URL on that one.

Thank you for the responses gentlemen. The Osaka picture is very interesting in that it suggests a very high degree of e-field distortion by the aircraft before the strike.

fcit: The NTSB seems to have removed from its website any information on events less serious than incident or accident. There are, however, a couple of very useful entries. Thank you very much.
