GS Mode inhibit A320

Hello,

Several approaches say that we have to push that button if we are coming from a ils approach. We often approach airports with two parallel runways and often get a swing over. I couldn't find the not in the fctm that we have to push the button for a swing. Is it considered as a circling approach?

Next question was: if we don't push the button during a swing and both pilots switch off their ils button does the system call out a deviation as well? I mean no ils indicated on both pfds and the button not pushed

Thanks !

Hi Speedwinner,

I can confirm from personal experience that both ils pb-sw to off is not sufficient to avoid a glideslope callout. Recently did a sidestep in LYS from 18L to R. The latter has a threshold which is about 1000m closer so an increased RoD was required. We also had both ILS scale off but still got the mode 5. Apparently as long as a valid ILS frequency is tuned and received, the system will give cautions.

Kind regards

Have your sidestep ready in the secondary and activate that when appropriate.

Alternative is to switch off G/S Mode on GPWS.

As mentioned, if you do neither, you will get the "Glideslope" callout.

Above information is appropriate for A320. Not sure about other types.
