Windshield failure

What happens in the cockpit if the windshield bursts at cruising altitude (say FL380 or so)? Will the debris enter the cockpit due to headwind or will the debris go outside due to pressure differential?

What will happen to the pilots, assuming only one pane breaks?

Hilarious...
This media frenzy on this Airbus crash is so pathetic, every news channel is talking out of their ass for hours non stop repeating the same garbage in thousand different ways.
Real sad and annoying.

In BAW 5390, GBJRT in 1990, at approx FL170, not only did the windscreen get projected out of the fuselage, but despite the pilot having his lap belt on, he followed it nearly all the way, so I would suggest pressure differential and exiting airflow is stronger than headwind component. Now that was due to incorrect size bolts being used to fix screen to mounts, so possibly not the same as if the screens managed to delaminate/shatter but mounting frame still securely attached...

aah... the elephant in the room

The unstated worry is that the problems are men. They are the loonies, fit the wrong bolts etc. Female pilots, female cabin crew and only female passengers is the logical answer. Fascinator, coat.... etc

Not long now. That was the DV window, slightly different as they are designed to be able to be opened in flight.
