Interview question

Hi folks,

was asked lately during interview:

When you take off and recognize during cruise that your fuel will not be sufficent for your destination what would you do.
Lets consider that you will scratch on your alternat fuel (by 200-300kg) but not touch your holding fuel. The weather is fine at your destination. What would you do? And when would you decide?

???

What would you answer?

I said that I can continue to destination with that, but I have to ensure as the Cpt. that you can land there. (2 RWYs, separat App.Navaids, WX good according OMA -No Alternate Procedure-) and inform ATC about min.fuel operation.

Was that OK?

:ooh:

Many Thanks

You don't have to comply with the no alternate fuel policy unless the company SOP states it in the OMA.

I would of said exactly the same answer. You can commit to your destination and use up the diversion fuel as long as you don't use final reserves.

I would contact my dispatch office via radio, ask them to prepare another flight plane showing NO holding fuel and using all the fuel on board to account for fuel to destination plus alternate (if req'd) and if the new flight plan met legal requirements would proceed

However, this has never happened to me and I would use more care in preflight planning.
