Runway Damage
 
Below is an image of an Emirates 777 from a few months ago that burst tyres on landing, thus causing the damage to MLE runway. My questions is what would be the procedure for the tunway after this, would it still be useable, immediately after the aircraft and FOD has been removed? Or would they have to come out and do minor repairs, like filling the small grooves? Or would they have to remove a large section of the damaged runway and re-Tarmac said area?

In the UK, the runway would be declared not available until it had at least been inspected and all debris removed. Depending on the depth of any grooves, it might be returned to use and repaired overnight, or if the grooving was too deep, it would be closed completely or possibly a section could be declared unavailable and the declared distances revised.

As mentioned it depends on the surface damage. Looking at the photos it looks probable the runway could have been used provided there was no risk of FOD issues. The Air Contractors B737 gear failure incident at East Midlands Airport in recent times gouged the runway surface enough to make it a safety issue so requiring the area affected to be planed out and replaced with a new surface before the runway full length became available.

Male's runway does feel a bit rough and bouncy in places and I do wonder how effective it is in quickly draining rainwater from the occasional tropical downpour. Maybe it's time they resurfaced the whole length to give a smoother running surface with improved drainage as many of the movements are "heavies" which over time contribute to surface deterioration.
