What is Concorde like to fly?

What is Concorde like to fly?

And how far into the airline pilot career are Concorde pilots.

:D

I remember a story which comes from the time when Prince Charles was going through the RAF flying training scheme. He was allocated to a flying instructor, and the instructor asked his squadron boss "How do I treat him? This is not a normal flying training situation."

The boss replied "Simple. You treat him just like any other student - who's going to be King one day."

And that's the answer for Concorde- it's just like any other aeroplane - except where it's different.

For a detailed answer to your very complicated question read "Flying Corcorde" by Brian Calvert, published by Fontana paperbacks in 1981 - reference number 0 00 636290 7 AVIATION. I doubt whether it's still in print, but you could probably find it in car boot sales or track it down though the internet by a search through specialist second-hand book dealers.

And no-one gets selected for Concorde until they've had 10-20 years of flying something else first - and they're considered to be quite good.

I found the Concorde Stick and Rudder Book a great read, lots for hand drawn pictures and written in a style that even non pilots cqan understand.

A great book from Transair for I think less than £10

Cheers

I will do my best to get one our avid PPRuNer's, a Concorde Captain, to write a page or two on the subject of flying Concorde.

If he agrees it will be placed on the Aircraft History and Nostalgia forum.

Watch this space as they say. :)

Never have & never will fly it myself, but I imagine the answer is , FAST (sorry could not resist)!

On a serious note there is an excellent video on about flying concorde, filmed in the cockpit on a LHR-JFK flight. Believe its available from ITVV. All your answers there.
