BFO on the NDB/DME Approach

when approach a NDB/DME , when select the adf frequency on the NAV page ,should i must press the BFO or not ?
thanks a lot !

The BFO should be selected on when using a NONA2A beacon for (manual) tuning but off for identification and monitoring.

The NONA1A beacons require the BFO on for (manual) tuning, identification and monitoring.

If the NDB will not ident, and you are in France or a French dependency, try the BFO - it might then ident.

FIRST OFF: BFO means Beat Frequency Oscillator

two, it helps you hear the morse code Identifier.

It does help you ID the NBD

all of that is good, so use it.

there are some places that modulate the morse code and you don't need it, but some places don't.

so, use it, make sure you read the manual with the ADF equipment for your plane and follow the instructions.

You are not alone...............

No question about "what is this thing", "what does it do", "what considerations are there on its use". Nope....only "do I press it or not?"

TOP MARKS for asking; absolutely. But all aviators should definitely have higher standards for their knowledge.
