Dr. Dre headphones or similar for a headset
 

Hi all,

I'm just curious if anyone has ever tried to use Dr. Dre headphones or other types of noise canceling headphones for flying. I know there is one such modification for the Bose quiet comfort and the u fly mike, others make work the same way. Just wondered if anyone has tried and how much success they've had with them vs. The full blown Bose A20 aviation headset.

Don't like Dr. Dre headphones, much better alternatives from other companies. I assume you're talking music wise, didn't know you could use them as a flying headset?

I use a Telex 850 ANR, does the job, lightweight no batteries needed. I was really impressed with the noise cancelling in the Bose QC15, really good. A20 is overkill if you ask me. I didn't get the QC15 because the mike can only attach to the left, bit awkward as I'm an FO and trying to keep one ear cup off is tricky. I also CBA with batteries.

Aircraft specs are different from music for the masses. The impedance of the speakers are wrong and the connectors are not the same. The Mike for Aviation is also not compatible with aircraft intercoms.


The A20 can be used via the supplied cable to attach to your ipod, but if you want to fly wit ha headset, use an aviation headset.
Over kill the Bose may be, but when you've been flying Turboprops for 15 years and sit for an ear test for your medical.......I only wish I'd had my A20 then not in the last year.


I had H10-40s for the first several years then the Sennheiser Active unit while on my second type. The Sennheiser is standard fit on the TP I flew until recently and it just wasn't good enough to prevent damage.


Don't mess about with your hearing. It's only a job and not worth it.


Get another set of proper ear defenders for walk rounds, and wear ear plugs under them.


Get the best headset you can, on finance if needed. Right now the Bose A20 is unsurpassed.


Tell the old Captain's with their Telex's and the like who think you're being daft that you really do want to hear your grandchildren whisper things to you one day.


You can't fix hearing loss, I've got gaps in my range I really wish I had back, but now I have a Bose, I'm sure I'll last till 65 without more damage.

A20, best long term investment you can make for your ears.

Bose will let you do interest free monthly installments over 12 months. It really can't be beat.

The Bose is just one of the options... Also compare some of the other products available. I've been using a Lightspeed Zulu for years and love it.

I sold my A20 (it was perfect for when I was on the Twin Otter) and bought the Bose SC15 with U Fly Mike. Very pleased with the change, less bulky, lighter and just as good noise cancelling.

You can order an Ufly mike attachment for the right seat, its longer than the standard mike. The QC15 is awesome, especially on longer flights.
