LFPG metar decoding

Hi there
Any body to help me decode this metar of LFPG the 2nd part after the QNH?
LFPG 122330Z 010/8kt 9999 FEW024 SCT 100 BKN120 M04/M06 Q1004 R08L/490335 R08R/550345 R09L/52//68

Various coverings of dry and wet snow with medium to good or better braking actions. The airports app for apple devices has a good runway state decoder.

What did we do before APP's......

08L Dry Snow 51%-100% 3 mm 0.35 medium braking action
08R Wet Snow 26%-50% 3mm 0.45 good braking action
09L Wet Snow 11%-25% Not reported 0.68 good braking action

Oh yea, I remember, we used to use the Met section of the Jeppesen Manuals :)

Why are we still using these archaic and obscure abbreviations anyway ?

Ridiculous really that we should accept routinely having to waste time deciphering codes that there are no reason for anymore.

Yes, 'there's an app for that' but so what ?

It wouldn't make much difference to the amount of paperwork to print everything out in plain language, including Notams and it would, undoubtedly contribute to flight safety.

No problem - which language would you like?

To be honest, I find it easier to read the short-hand METAR/TAF text than the decoded explanation on something like allmetsat.com

As I'm always bumping into people seeking clarification of METARs, thought I'd share this with you: http://www.wmo.int/pages/prog/www/WM...ction/Sel2.pdf. I recommend you keep a copy on your tablet PCs or phones.

Section 15 is for METARs. Search for "State of the runway" for further info.
