feature of paper logbook...

Hi folks,
Just want to have your opinion. I have a JAA ATPL and Logten Pro on my iMac/iPhone and there is a lot of other very good digital logbooks today in use. Do we still need to fill paper logbook?

Not sure about your area, but our rules say a definite yes on that issue.
What happens when you drop said I phone in a lake when fishing? Kid pukes on it? It gets stolen? And all the rest of that crap.....

Ah crap.

feature of paper logbook...

Well, in case of Logten, all data double backuped, on phone, ipad and Mac, also all reports done as pdf files from the desktop program. Just curious, if pilots with even 10,000h still writing a logbook...)

Those with 10,000+ hrs probably prefer paper. I certainly do (14,000+ and counting) :;)

What about ratings, checks, medical signatures and the like? Are they valid if scanned and imported into these apps?

AdamF.

A house fire? Paper burns well.

I have lost 2 paper logbooks now. Onto my 3rd. Only managed to keep that info because I had a electronic one backed up on the net.

In Canada the regs say that you can have an electronic copy as long as you can produce it up to date within 48hrs of being asked for it.

I am in the process of going fully electronic, I have over 4000 hours now and started log ten pro 800 hours ago and am slowly inputting all my hours into it so I can have 1 proper accurate logbook, plan is to print it out and place all pages in a file and then update it as i go along with paper updates but all info will be stored and backed up electronically, paper will only be to take to future job interviews etc

as for ratings and checks, not had anything written in my logbook since CPL days, its all done on my licence now for type ratings so no issue there.

personally I think its the way forward

There is nothing stopping you printing out your e logbook, then taking it to the book binders, i have just done this, they look amazing! Plus Pilots Pal backs up your data on iCloud, PC or Mac.
