SEP Rating

Hello everyone,

I have a question regarding the Single Engine Piston Rating (SEP). I obtained my JAR-FCL CPL (a) IR (a) back in 2010. I never got an SEP issued on this just the MEP (odd i know). I have recently been offered a job on a single engine turbine.

Question one - As far as i know i do not need an SEP to operate this aircraft as it is a totally different class rating itself SET. If i am incorrect please advise.

Question two - If i did the SEP all i would like to know is what is the process with sending off the paperwork and the cost? How long it takes? Also do i send my current license in or will they issue a new one with the SEP added.

Appreciate your help on this matter

:)

You are correct, the SET Class Rating is not dependent on holding an SEP rating. Note that most SET aeroplanes require a specific class rating (ie Cessna SET) but one or 2, like the Malibu, require a type rating.

To gain an SEP rating you will need to pass a LST with a Class Rating Examiner or Flight Examiner. You then send the Form 1119 off to the CAA with the current fee (around £100 - see the CAA Scheme of Charges) and they send you a new page for your licence. Exactly the same process for the SET rating as well.
