JAR PPL exams

I'm sitting the Jar PPL theory exams tomorow and no doubt will be having another go at them in March. The 19 page syllabus is rather daunting. Do I really need to know how a gyro mounting is put together? If it breaks in flight,no matter how well my trustee R. 100 is trimed, I don't think I'll be able to get out and fix it. Anybody sat the exams in Ireland? Any advice would help as no past papers are available.

For the tech exam, revise terminology, the exam loves it. Forget genuinely interesting (and occasionally useful) stuff like how the gyro works, and concentrate on the JAA-speak for the types and methods of operation. Ditto things like aircraft structure, flying controls, etc.

I do recall a few questions too on aircraft wiring systems, so revise how they go together and what you expect to see on what with given faults.

Thanks for the advice Genghis. I sat them today: Aircraft general 70% to 80%?
Human performance same.
Air law?????????? "carriage of munitions of war under PPL", damned if I know.
Nav was ok too.

Thanks for the advice.
