A question about concorde
 

I was asked this question by a friend and couldn't give an answer so I put it to the members of pprune

Concorde is capable of traveling faster than a bullet so, if someone was to stand at the back of a plane while traveling at the speed of sound and shot a bullet what would happen?
Would it...
shoot though the front of the plane
or shoot through the back as the plane (which is travelling faster) overtakes the bullet

It would make a hole in the cockpit door and possibly break something... (relative motion - to an outside observer, the effective velocity of the bullet is the velocity of the aircraft plus the velocity of bullet as it leaves the muzzle).

A more interesting question is how the gun got there in the first place... don't they make Concorde pax pass through metal detectors? :)

If you stand in the isle of a plane and jump up in the air does the plane go wizzing out from underneath you and you get hit by the rear bulk heads. Same thing as the gun.
