Qantas RT Procedures!

Howdy,

Just read the Lufthansa thread and it reminded me of a question I have been meaning to ask for a while.

I was on the jump seat of a few internal Qantas flights Xmas 2000 and noticed that the callsign used was not "Qantas 123" or anything like that. It seemed to be the aircraft registration. Any reason for this??

My guess is that with so many Qantas flights operating in the east coast it just makes identification easier over the radio but BA donīt seem to have a problem in the UK and BMI have a novel way of getting around it ("Midland 34XNGBSHE" etc).

Hmmmmmmm, I wonder...

Ta!

Edited to bring up to 11+ exam standard english

Qantas use the aircraft rego for all internal flights (QF400 and above) and the flight number for the internationals. The only exceptions are the Impulse 717s operating with QF callsigns, e.g. Qantas 990 etc.

Most domestics do this, although the practice of using flight numbers is increasing, e.g. Eastern, Sunstate.

Wow.. I've never hear that and I wonder how they overcome the problem with stored flight plans?
