A320 Flight Guide
 

Hi everyone,

Was flying a B737 NG, I am now switching to an A320.
Was wandering if anyone of you A320 pilots know of a A320 pilots guide, similar to the one available for the B737-NG series (A5 size easy to carry around, not thick like FCOM)

I've used the A319/320 Professional Pilot Study Guide from Impact Ink;
As we're not really allowed to give URLs, google it as Immpact Ink pilot store.
There is another manual, the "Quick Study Guide" that you could like better.
and some MCDU programming booklets./
There is a lot more than you would need.
What I liked with the "Systems Guide" is the introduction to a philosophy and not just a learning-by-rote manual.
And welcome to the fraternity of the 'Bus drivers.

Buy an iPad (or a Galaxy Pad) and read the FCOM as a pdf.

This is the manual for you. I've had mine for 8 years and it's still going strong!

Also if you have an iPad and/or iPhone there is a great app called 'iPilot A320'. It's quite pricey but well worth it and ideal for a forthcoming sim etc.

I have problems with third party books about aircraft system. Especially the US ones, where they explain every button in every detail. I have the book mentioned by Localiser, I flipped it through once and never opened it again.

The main drawback is that they try to teach you the system in another way then Airbus does. Which might be helpful for some, but not for me. Check out your company and their way of asking questions. Mostly, Airbus operators use terms taken directly out of FCOM. Explaining all the buttons on the overhead and giving you nice mnemonics doesn't teach you the Airbus system. The later may be a complicated one, but once comprehensed as an entity not so much.

Nowadays, pilots are no button pusher anymore, they must understand the whole system - or will fail miserably.

hate to be the bearer of bad news, but having flown most airbuses myself (and some boeing), Airbus does not intend to teach you any of the system from the fcom (written very badly). Some of us on the other hand prefer to understand how the systems work not just pushing buttons. I see you agree with me on that part but Airbus prefers the other option. Follow ECAM, Push buttons only.

One has to understand that everyone learns systems in a different way. I don't disagree with you in any point. I like the FCOMs, I have learned them, it suits me that they are always the same, whatever type you transition to. I doubt that you will get your information in a dark cockpit in an emergency in a second market's book. btw some operators don't allow you to. So, instead of having to carry two books, carry one! But everyone has his own way.

Biggles software have the from in a more interactive format.

some people have tried to install FCOM1-4 on an Ipad??, (wait for the coming of IPAD2 or XooM Motorola.)

Apple will have a better screen for reading, I am thinking to buy myself this toy and install all digit FCOMs, and other softwares to keep my brain updated for the 320.

would be a perfect tool to study with its 10 hours battery.I am still open on other brands which may come during 2011.

what? iPad cannot read pdf? wtf! I'm completly Apple-free so I have no clue, but I thought that at least pdf's would be possible. Try all pads with Android OS. They are as easy to understand as iOS and come with lots of different pdf readers.

Ipad reads PDF documents no problem you just need to download/purchase goodreader from the App store...

As far as Airbus docs to read, the good old FCOMs and the instructor's manual which for some reason some operators try to keep as a big secret...

Good old Apple - everyone else provides pdf support directly, or via free download, Apple rip you off. One reason I will never touch their style over substance rubbish.
