Egyptair-odd pre-landing request by cabin staff?

Hi all.

I recently flew JNB-CAI on Egyptair, and as this is a night flight arriving there at 5-ish AM, pillows and blankets were provided. Around 10min prior to landing, the cabin crew moved through the cabin ordering-and i mean ORDERING- all pax to put their blankets and pillows behind their backs, ie between their backs and the seatback. When one passenger questioned this, the FA repied "its important!".

Now I've never heard of cabin crew ordering pax to put pillows and blankets behind their backs just before landing...nothing appeared to be wrong at all, no announcements were made, and apart from what seemed to me to be an unusual configuration sequence of gear-flap-flap, everything was totally normal...i'm puzzled?

Is this SOP?:uhoh:

Certainly an odd one.

Maybe they didn't want the pillows and blankets 'slipping' into someones hand luggage.

Well......that's s wierd one now isn't it?

If it is a standard operating procedure, and you flew more than one sector with them, did they do the same thing on the other sector as well? Have you ever flown them before or since and was it repeated? I can’t think of any reason to command the passengers to put the blankets and pillows between their backs and the seatbacks. That sounds very strange to me.

Never hesitate to ask the crew a question about your flight. You may not get the answer you want, but it is certainly within your rights to question us. I would suggest writing the company about your experience, just as you did here on PPRuNe.

It is SOP on MS to ask you to put your blanket and pillow between the seat back and shell in J on the A333, but they typically use the A332 on CAI JNB.

Never been in the back, so don't know what happens there.
