Microburst
Would a microburst have affected a newer plane? Or an A380?

The simple answer is Yes. These effects are a danger to all aircraft. The best solution for dealing with microbursts, windshear and downbursts is not to be there in the first place. But if you do have to deal with this sort of problem, then a high power to weight ratio will help and you. Generally you will find that twin engined aircraft have a more favourable ratio, so the A380 would be more vulnerable.
