Dornier 328 E/P lever
Hi everyone.
I'm a bit confused on what the E/P lever on the Dornier 328(both prop and jet) does. It is visible here, the third lever (big one). Is it some kind of speed brake? I've noticed on some videos I've seen that the pilots release the parking brake on the same lever. Does it control both the speed brakes on the wings and the brakes on the tires? |
It is Emergency/Parking brake handle.
In case of losing both normal and alternate braking, forward part of its travel can be used to deliver metered hyd pressure to brake cylinders, same to both sides and without antiskid protection. Pulled fully backwards it acts as parking brake. IIRC, there are no speedbrakes on Do-328 and ground spoilers are installed on jets only. |

Some turboprops do have ground spoilers, or combined roll/ground spoilers. |
Ah! Now I understand. Thank you for your help!

While we're discussing the 328; does it have an autothrottle? The prop version too? In case it has; does it control both the torque and the prop levers? I've never heard of turboprops with autothrottle, but I guess the 328 is so modern that it easily could have one...

The propellor 328 does not have auto throttle.
It does not have speed brakes either. Anyone please remind me where the gust lock was? |
Gust lock runs flush inbetween the power levers, spring loaded and can only be pulled when power levers are in the Ground Idle/Beta range.
True, no autothrust/throttle and be very wary of pulling that EP lever even when taxiing! Very easy to lock the wheels or send poor cabin attendant flying if he/she is still up and about! (oh I do miss that little wonder prop!) Cheers! |
Frontlefthamster, thanks for setting the record straight :ok:
Regarding the autothrottle (autotorque?), I can confirm that neither ATR nor DHC-8 have it installed. And I also never heard about autoTQ. |
Just practice getting the props into Beta range.:ok:
One or two have fallen foul of a design issue and trundled off the end of the dark coloured bit onto the green coloured bit:uhoh: Sir George Cayley |
