As smokers, do you smoke in cockpit?

Smokers I have flown with (in an airline) don't because it is:

Illegal, under the terms of the company's operating manuals.
Illegal, under the terms of the ANO (£2000 fine 2 years imprisonment?)
Illegal, under the new UK smoking at work ban thing.

Different countries, different rules... around here it is permitted.

It's disgusting in a small space. I would not accept it even taking over an aeroplane if the previous occupant had obviously been smoking. Smoking days are gone at work- bye bye!

Occasionally, Havana cigars mostly.
FD ventilation on high blower, generally not a problem....provided all three have the required Havanas:E

As a humble gate agent years ago I can remember going onto the flight deck of a few aircraft and definitely getting the 'turnaround fag' smell... Ernest K Gann used to do it...

It is illegal and incurs a hefty fine, however, they do smoke in 744. On cargo missions they smoke whenever they want and for passenger flights they pull the "smoke evacuation handle" since first class passgengers below can smell the stench.

They often fly with hazardous materials on board; on rare occasions-- a few times a year-- bombs and rockets from a military base in KSFO to RKPK.

It is pretty much the norm in Eurasia and Russia. On the ground, pull up the window shades, open the window, vents open, lock cockpit door and smoke away. In flight, its even easier. And if a flight attendant smokes, she'll come to the cockpit too.

What about the issue of withdrawal symptoms if a pilot can't smoke and is heavily stressed on a long flight, would this become a safety issue? Who knows.

If it did he should have his medical pulled as unfit to fly until he sorted his chronic addiction out.

With that much go-juice behind me, and wafting out the end of the hose, which is right behind my cabin..... the idea positively scares me..

In our cargo operation, a contract captain had his employment terminated last week due to smoking in the cockpit!
