JAA Type Rating Validity
Hello,
Here is my question/problem: I did an A320 type rating in September 2004. After one year looking for job without luck I did a renewal course in October 2005 consisting in 16 hrs FFS including skill test. My type rating was then valid until October 2006. I did not renew it and it has been expired since then. Would like to know if it is still possible to renew it. Everything was done under JAR. Thanks in advance |
I have been told by an Spanish TRTO that you have to renew an expired type rating within the following 18 months from the expiration date. Is that correct? How is it in UK?

If the your last sim check has expired by more than 5 years then it is an initial all over again. Anytime before that it is a sim check.
Try not to let any type you have on your license, that you intend to use in the future, especially without experience on type, expire more than the 5 years. Doing an initial TR you will also have to do the required amount of landings in the a/c, again. This can be very expensive, if you are self sponsored. You can check this by going to the UK CAA website - FCL - Lasors and IIRC section 4, somewhere there. |
Well, the spanish DGAC told me yesterday that unfortunately I lost the A320 type rating because it has been expired for more than 18 months and that I will have to do the full course. How can it be be possibble while in the UK, being a JAR member as well as Spain, you can have it expired for up to 5 years?

Because the JAA is a gentlemans club with few gentlemen. So get your rating on the UK JAA certificate and start work!
Al this will soon be history as EASA ramps up....as it is now EU LAW, rather than the JAA lads having meetings where everyone agrees, until they walk out the door and make their own exceptions! Good luck! |
How do I get my rating on the UK JAA certificate?

Documentation please......
A JAA FCL reference would be appreciated.

Google UK CAA lasors. then go to Section 4.

In UK:
Lasors 2008 Page 268 F4.4 RENEWAL OF TYPE RATINGS (AEROPLANES) In Spain: JAR-FCL 1.245 Article f) But the "fabulous" Spanish DGAC says that you have to renew an expired type rating within the following 18 months from the expiration date, leaving all the spanish pilots in a clear disadvantage situation with the rest of the JAR pilots |
