Metar query

Whilst whiling away a few hours in Chambery today with my '145+2' waiting for LGW to 'unsnow', I asked my ops to read a METAR for LTN to me. It had the code 'R/P' in it. I'm ashamed to say neither of us knew what that meant. Anyone know? I could not be bothered to rifle through the Jepps as breakfast was fast approaching (and my car was at LGW...........:))

Pretty sure it means RVR greater than 1500 metres

Thanks V - that makes sense. I'll look in Jepps on my next long flight.:{

Ah, Chambery - I spent 3 years on the 'other side' of the runway on exchange with the French Air Farce. Wonderful area.

From Met Office

RVR tendency (U = increasing; D = decreasing; N = no change; not
reported in UK at present) may be added after figure e.g.
R27R/1100D. P1500 = more than 1500 m; M0050 = less than 50 m.
Significant variations — example : R24/0950V1100, i.e. varying
between two values.
